Our goals and intentions are to improve English education worldwide by aiding in promoting the truly great schools out there as well as helping educators be better prepared to teach all levels of English. ESLList.com allows potential and current teachers to research education facilities (private academies, public schools, universities, camps, companies and recruiters), and allow them to find one that fits their individual style. We believe that the better educated foreign teachers are before signing a contract, the more prepared they will be in the workplace. ESL List allows for complete transparency with an open review system and forums. We realize that no system is perfect, so we've opened our review system to comments and discussions. It is our hope to keep reviews relevant and honest. This is a great improvement from our last system at ESLblacklist.com. The very nature of review sites seem to draw more negative reviews than positive. Teachers with positive experiences are much less likely to review, than those with negative experiences. This should be taken into consideration when reading the reviews and forums.
The more reviews your location receives, the more credible the overall review will be. In order to keep this site relevant and completely honest, reviews can only be removed by the reviewer. Threats against ESL List or any of our partner sites, asking us to remove user reviews will be read, but issues should be taken to the reviewer, not ESL List. We are merely a medium for expressions and open discussions. Once a review site allows companies to remove negative reviews and control content, we loose all credibility. Far more will be accomplished by trying to resolve internal issues by going to the source, not the messenger. Please try to respect our system, but feel free to email us at info@esllist.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Our review system extends to our job board. Here we only allow ESL facilities with a total rating of 3 or more (or no reviews at all), to post. This is what sets us apart from other ESL review and job board sites and aids in our overall goal of promoting the truly good schools, while encouraging the schools with lower reviews to improve.
We offer tips and guidelines to schools for improving their overall rating.
Finally, our concern lies with the education of ESL students. It is apparent that improvements need to be made in countries such as the Republic of Korea, who are among the top spenders on ESL education, but rank near the bottom.
This concern extends to the improvement of our teachers. ESL List attempts to do so by gathering 'best practices', encouraging continuing education, obtaining teaching certificates and by providing cultural and local language education to help bridge the gap in the work environment.
The school's motto should be "Just because it's in your contract doesn't mean we're going to honor it." The pay for a first year teacher at the school is on the low end of the spectrum to begin with and the subsequent headaches one will get from working there just aren't worth it. I recommend th...

I worked at a dreadful hagwon before going with Brad for a public school position. Actually, Brad had an offer for me in 2010 as well and I foolishly choose the hagwon gig with another recruiter. Because of his prompt replies (doesn't ignore you like lots of recruiters do) I decided to give TEIK ...

I hope you heed this warning and do not accept employment at this school.

This was my first job in Japan. Everything the previous reviewer commented on is absolutely true. But, there is one significant benefit behind this job. If you're desperate for cash and need visa sponsorship, this company could be your golden ticket, as it was for me. If you've lived in Japa...

Here comes the long list. The university is starting to recruit for next year, and it's time someone who's teaching now posted an update. It's still bad.
Pay. The university paid its employees on the 15th this month. You contract states BY the 10th. Why weren't we paid on time? THE UNIVERSITY H...

Notice I started it all with "management." The management is the reason this school is awful. I truly feel bad for the kids and the parents who have to pay so much. Schools need to learn that you need to invest in teachers and students. Unfortunately, Korrnell is a money making operation and noth...

I came to this school on a tourist visa from the U.S. since the manager of the school said they needed someone immediately, and it would be quicker to process the visa once I was in Japan versus waiting to process the visa in the U.S. So, I went to Japan on a tourist visa and was going to get my...

I and my wife previous worked for Sahmyook Language Institute/School in 2001-2002 and 2004-2005 respectively and we liked it so much we decided to return. When we were told to make the one hour trip from the airport to the main campus by ourselves we should have known things had made a turn for ...

Recruiter Jenny from CTS Recruiters lied to us about the conditions of the potential position to get us to go to the meeting with the goal to sign the contract at the employers school.
For over a week we were negotiating the conditions (salary) with the recruiter. We then asked her to arrange a m...

It's a shame. This school has so much potential.

The family managing this branch represent some of the worst people I have ever met. The husband owns the branch but only comes to the school before the teachers show up. By the time you get there he is gone because he doesn't want to deal with any confrontation. He leaves his wife in charge bu...

Overall, this is a great school that you can trust. They really care about the kids and work with you to make sure your needs are met. Great school if you care about kids and really want to teach. Excellent top notch facilities and materials. I highly recommend it.

This branch would be a top-notch place to work if they got rid of Kaylin. She is unfit to be a manager. I have never heard of a Korean expressing so much anger publicly. Stay away from Kaylin, and stay away from Chungdahm Dongtan.

I worked at Wattsenglish from September 2011
to December.
Previously I was working for English First in China.
When arriving in Prague after a 12 hour flight from China (Xian) there was nobody at the airport to 'pick me up'. I had to make my own way to Prague and find my own accommodation. Of ...

The head teacher, Janet Im, is very unprofessional. Like the other reviewer mentioned, she is extremely moody. She plays a lot of office politics and tries to pit employees against each other. She offers raises to one teacher if she is mad at another teacher, but then doesn't give the raise. ...

Don't sign a DYB contract. It's a sad thing as this company has lofty goals and aspires to set itself above all of the other hagwons. From a foreign teacher's perspective, ironically, it is probably one of the worst places you could possibly work. Everyone who works there is miserable. Please, do...

I had a very bad experience with Ace Korea Consulting aka Ace Recruting (they have several names, but the main website is www.acecareer.co.kr).
Two years ago, I sent them my resume, which included very personal and private information like my GPA and home address, and they posted it online for e...

The working environment as this school is terrible. The management sets teachers up to fail. The constant busy-work detracts from the what should be the school's purpose: education. Teachers are so over-burdened that they cannot adequately prepare for classes and the students suffer as well. To ...
